The Gloriana Consultation closed on 31 August 2014 with a total of 3,025 responses of which 2,385 were local residents.

A clear majority of respondents (76.5% - 2,071 people) felt the proposed location for the permanent home of the Gloriana was not appropriate or not appropriate at all. While around a fifth (20% - 553 people) of respondents felt it was appropriate.

It has therefore been agreed between the Council and the Gloriana trustees not to proceed any further with this project.  No planning application will be presented by either party. No other site is being offered or considered by the Council.

Overview

Proposals are being developed for a new river park in Richmond upon Thames, which could become home to The Queen's Rowbarge. The Gloriana is the first Royal rowbarge to be built in over 250 years, and built as a lasting legacy to mark Her Majesty’s Diamond Jubilee.

The historic boathouse at Orleans Park has been identified as historically, but also operationally the most suitable site. The world famous Foster and Partners, have prepared a potential design for:

  • a modern boathouse
  • enhanced new café and play area for local people and visitors
