Wandsworth Trees Supplementary Planning Document Consultation 2025

The Draft Trees and Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) consultation closed on 30 September 2025. We received 11 responses from residents and other interested parties. Following consideration of the consultation responses, the Trees and Development SPD was adopted on 1 December 2025.
What we heard
Respondents were broadly supportive of the SPD and its aims, particularly the emphasis on tree retention, the “right tree, right place, right reasons” approach, native species planting, and protection of important trees. Consultees suggested improvements relating to flood risk, historic environment considerations, biosecurity, long-term tree management and document clarity.
How your feedback was used
Following the consultation, we considered all responses to the consultation in producing the final version of the SPD. The Council made a number of minor amendments, including additional guidance on tree planting near flood defences, consideration of below-ground archaeology, biosecurity measures for tree stock, references to Tree Protection Orders, and a restructuring of the document to improve readability.

Overview
Wandsworth Council is consulting on its draft Trees Supplementary Planning Document (SPD).
The draft SPD will provide clear guidance for developers to assist them in managing and protecting trees during development. It aims to maximise the delivery and protection of trees during the planning process to improve biodiversity and enhance the borough’s natural and built environment for the benefit of local residents.
The SPD will support the Council’s Tree Policy and accompanying Tree and Woodland Delivery Framework alongside supporting the tree management and landscaping policies set out in the Wandsworth Local Plan (July 2023).

What happens next
A summary of the responses to the consultation will be made available following the consultation period. These responses will be fully considered and if appropriate, changes will be made to the final version of the document prior to its adoption by the Council, which is intended to be later in 2025 or early 2026.
