Wandsworth Homecare Questionnaire

Closed 19 Mar 2018

Opened 26 Feb 2018

Results updated 24 May 2018

Thank you to all those who completed the questionnaire. The results of our survey have been analysed and a summary of the key findings are given below – we will use this information to help shape the service for the future:

  • Time keeping and travel distances is an area for improvement since this affects call visits
  • Consistency and familiarity of a care worker team is very important
  • A service which supports people to maximise their independence so they are able to do things for themselves is welcomed
  • The principle of a more flexible service was supported, as this would provide more control for the individual over how and when they receive their support
  • Terms and conditions of care workers should be improved

Overview

Wandsworth Borough Council will be making changes to the way it buys homecare services from care agencies.

We want to hear from people that receive a homecare service, and the family, friends and carers who rely on these services. We want to understand how people experience different aspects of their homecare, including the planning of care visits, the level of choice and control people have over their care and the details of how, when and by whom this care is provided. This will help us to plan services in the future.

Homecare is a key care at home support service that is paid for by the Council for people who have been assessed as having eligible social care needs. This care is delivered by many homecare organisations.

Homecare services are provided to people to support them to remain as independent as possible in their own homes, with the support from local community services. These include ‘personal care’ tasks, such as help getting in and out of bed, washing and dressing and ‘domestic care’ tasks such as cooking and cleaning.

The Council will be setting up new contracts for homecare provision, starting from mid-2019. The current contracts cannot be extended or renewed so new ones need to be put in place to continue homecare provision.

We will feed back the findings from this questionnaire and our engagement activities to the Council and will use this to plan the future homecare service.
