Overview

As part of our commitment to continually improve our parks and open spaces and encourage healthy living, Richmond Council’s Parks team is working with the Friends of North Sheen Recreation Ground to propose a selection of new individual outdoor fitness equipment (FitPoint) within North Sheen Rec.

Outdoor fitness equipment can be used by both younger and older people for  exercise and to increase physical activity. It can also help to promote participation in sports, reduce isolation in our communities, and is part of the Council’s wider prevention strategy for health.

Currently there is no fitness equipment installed in North Sheen Rec and it is the aspiration of the Friends group to enhance the park by offering more recreational activities to its users. The new equipment would be installed in the corner of the larger playground, close to the entrance with North Road. Currently this area is grassed, without any equipment or trees. The proposed fitness equipment would be placed on grass / open plastic matting, so it would not need a paved surface. It would be enclosed within a low fence. It would be free to use, available whenever the Rec is open. With this in mind, we would like to seek wider community input to gauge interest on preferred options going forward.
