Fitness Equipment Improvements, Hatherop Park

Closed 27 Jun 2016

Opened 3 Jun 2016

Results updated 20 Oct 2017

We would like to thank everyone who responded to the consultation. We have now had time to analyse the results received. The majority of respondents (62.5%) wished to see the new fitness equipment installed in one location rather than in a trim trail design. The location identified as the most suitable for this prior to the consultation was the grass area at the rear of the pavilion.

The Council will endeavour to install the most popular pieces chosen by respondents, subject to these all fitting into the space allocated for the fitness equipment. These are as follows: cross trainer, stepper, log stack, bicycle, abs bench, pull ups, push up bars, and parallel bars.

The Council has discussed options with the Friends of Hatherop Park who support the consultation and the next steps going forward.

We will shortly be going out to tender and anticipate that we will install the new equipment in early winter 2016.

Overview

As part of our commitment to continually improve our parks and open spaces and encourage healthy living, the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames Parks team are working in conjunction with the Friends of Hatherop Park to propose the replacement of the fitness equipment (FitPoint) located at Hatherop Park with a selection of individual outdoor fitness equipment or trim trail.

Outdoor fitness equipment can be used by both younger and older people to test their strength and exercise their bodies. It can also help to promote participation in sports, reduce isolation in our communities, and is part of the Council’s wider prevention strategy for health.

The current fitness equipment has been well used by the community over the past ten years. However, due to wear and tear we feel that this equipment needs to be replaced in order to provide modern and fit for purpose equipment. With this in mind, we would like to seek wider community input to gauge interest on preferred options going forward.
