Young Carers Survey

The Young Carers Survey closed on 18 July 2025 and received 49 responses from young carers, parents, carers and professionals.
The survey was carried out to help us understand what support young carers and their families need most and to help inform plans for the Young Carers Service from July 2026 onwards.
What we heard
Overall, feedback about the Young Carers Service was very positive.
Many respondents said the service has a positive impact on young carers' wellbeing, quality of life and social relationships. Activities, trips, emotional support and opportunities to meet other young carers were particularly valued.
Several respondents described the service as a "lifeline" and praised staff for their care, kindness and dedication.
Respondents also highlighted the importance of continuing activities during school holidays and providing opportunities for young carers to connect with others who have similar experiences.
What happened next
The feedback was reviewed as part of planning for the future Young Carers Service from July 2026.
Following consideration of the consultation findings, the Council decided to continue with its plans for the future Young Carers Service.
How your feedback was used
The feedback helped us understand which aspects of the service young carers and their families value most and was considered as part of planning the future Young Carers Service.
In particular, the consultation reinforced the importance of:
- Emotional support for young carers
- Opportunities to meet peers and take part in group activities
- Activities during school holidays
- Maintaining a service that has a positive impact on young carers and their families

Overview
We want to hear from you about the future of our Young Carers Support Service across Kingston and Richmond. The current contracts for this service end in June 2026, and we're starting to plan what comes next. Your views and experiences are vital to shaping the future of support for young carers in our boroughs.
About the Young Carers Service
Young Carers are children and young people under 18 who help look after someone - inside the family - who needs extra care or support and live in Kingston and Richmond.
Our Young Carers Service supports them in many ways. This includes:
- Information and advice for them and their families
- Someone to talk to and get emotional support
- Opportunities to take part in fun activities, sports, arts, and days out
- Group events, workshops, and short breaks to give them time away from their caring role
We want to make sure every Young Carer gets a chance to live a full, happy life and enjoy time with friends.
