Wandsworth Resident Participation and Engagement Survey

Overview

Wandsworth Council’s Housing department is landlord to over 33,000 properties. We are looking to develop a new strategy for resident engagement and participation with the residents of our estates.

The strategy will set out how residents can influence and shape Housing services, provide feedback, participate in decision-making and help hold the Housing Department to account. It will also outline how we communicate and engage with tenants, leaseholders and other residents living on our estates. To help us develop the strategy, we want to hear from residents of our estates.

In 2024, the Regulator of Social Housing, the body responsible for ensuring local authorities and housing associations provide good quality, safe and well-managed homes for residents, found that the Council needed to improve aspects of its Housing service, including the information it held about its properties and the way it engaged with residents.

Following this, we have been working to improve our Housing service through our Housing Improvement and Transformation Plan. As part of this work, we have committed to developing a new strategy that will strengthen resident involvement, improve feedback mechanisms and make it easier for more residents to get involved

Why are we asking for you views?

To help us develop the strategy, we need to hear from as wide a range of residents as possible. We want to understand which Housing issues matter most to residents, how they would like to receive information and provide feedback, what encourages people to get involved, and what barriers may prevent participation.

We know that residents want to engage with us in different ways. Some residents may simply want to receive information, while others may want to provide feedback, shape local decisions or play a more active role in influencing Housing services.

We are also keen to hear from residents who do not currently take part in existing engagement opportunities, so that the strategy reflects the views of a broader range of tenants and leaseholders. This survey is your opportunity to tell us how you would like to engage with Housing services in the future. 

How will your feedback be used?

This survey will help us understand how residents would like to engage with Housing services in the future, which Housing issues matter most to them, how they would like to receive information and provide feedback, what prevents people from getting involved, and what we can do to encourage wider participation.

Who do we want to hear from?

The survey is open to everyone who lives on our housing estates, council tenants, resident leaseholders, non-resident leaseholders, private tenants living on council estates and residents in temporary accommodation.

What happens next

After the survey closes, we will hold a series of focus groups to explore specific proposals in more detail and help co-produce the new strategy. We aim to publish the strategy in 2027.
