Proposed Changes to Tenancy Conditions

Closed 11 May 2022

Opened 11 Mar 2022

Overview

The Council would like to hear any comments you may have about the changes we are proposing to your Tenancy Agreement. Under the Housing Act 1985 we have a legal responsibility to consult with you when we are proposing to make any changes to the terms and conditions of your agreement.

Your Tenancy Agreement is the legal contract between you and us. The agreement sets out your rights and responsibilities and our rights and responsibilities.

We are reviewing the agreement because:

  • There have been changes to the law and guidance since we last updated the agreement, for example, on building safety and domestic violence and abuse
  • It will help us keep you safe and we would be able to better manage the properties we are responsible for

Proposed changes

Following the proposed changes to our tenancy conditions, please be assured your tenancy type will not change. The tenancy offered to you when you signed your tenancy agreement will remain the same. This means that if you have a secure tenancy it will remain a secure tenancy.

The information in the tenancy conditions around ‘flexible tenancies’ is only applicable to new tenants who have been issued with a flexible fixed term tenancy, as we are combining the two sets of conditions.

You can read about the proposed changes here.

If you wish to discuss the proposed changes, please contact your Area Housing Team.

Have your say

You can make any comments or suggestions about the proposed changes using the Online Survey link below.

If you require a paper copy of the survey or a different language/format, please contact hms@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk or 020 8871 8942.

What happens next

We will consider all comments we receive and then make a decision about the proposed changes. If the proposals are approved, we will send you a copy of your new Tenancy Conditions and the Notice of Variation (Housing Act 1985, Section 103). We will tell you the date the new changes will apply. You will not be asked to sign a new Tenancy Agreement.
