Totterdown Street Improvements - Trial scheme

Overview

During the spring of 2023, we conducted a public engagement to hear from residents, visitors and business-owners about their views and aspirations for the new public realm space in Totterdown Street.

We have analysed the feedback received and created a plan for a 12-month trial scheme. 

The vision is to make Totterdown Street a focal point for the community, where people can sit and make use of the outdoor area and to boost the economic opportunities for the area.

There will be pockets of tables and chairs surrounded by planting, with cycle parking opportunity and a gated area to allow a temporary plaza throughout the day. 

A mixture of pop up market pitches will further animate the street and provide natural surveillance across the public realm. 

During the trial, a new traffic arrangement will be put in place to support the new design changes and to reduce traffic volumes and speeds.

What happens next?

We will carefully consider all the feedback from the questionnaires and public and stakeholder events. It will then be used to further develop design ideas for Totterdown Street.
