Trial barrier to prevent through traffic in Oakmead Road and Ravenstone Street, SW12
Overview
Following receipt of petitions from residents at Oakmead Road and Ravenstone Street requesting through traffic to be stopped on these roads, the Council has approved the introduction of a barrier on Oakmead Road near the junction of Bedford Hill. The barrier will allow access to pedestrians and cyclists only. Space will be created near the barrier for vehicles needing to reverse along Oakmead Road.
The proposal aims to reduce traffic volumes and improve road safety in these residential roads. A plan of the proposal can be seen here.
What happens next
The trial period will commence on 29th June for a minimum period of 6 months (with scope to extend up to 18 months), to enable the Council to gather public feedback and monitor the impact on Oakmead Road, Ravenstone Street and adjacent roads.
At the end of the trial period, traffic data and consultation feedback will be fully considered before a final decision is made on whether this experimental scheme should be made permanent, dropped or amended.
Have your say
The Council is keen to hear the views of local residents and businesses throughout the trial period, to ensure that all available information has been considered before a final decision is made.
