Merton Road Bus Lane – Time Extension Trial
Overview
The Council submitted a bid to Transport for London (TfL) in November 2021 for a Bus Priority scheme on Merton Road that would deliver a benefit to passengers using the corridor and also to pedal cyclists and motorcyclists (P2W) having road space away from general traffic during the proposed times of operation. Funding was made available in September 2022 to deliver the scheme. The initial proposals aim to extend the current time of operation of the northbound bus lane between Brookwood Road and Standen Road.
What happens next
A trial has now been approved consisting of an extension of the times of operation of the northbound bus lane on the A218 Merton Road between Brookwood Road and Standen Road: Changing from 7-10am Monday to Friday to 7am-7pm Monday to Saturday.
The trial period will commence on 17th April for a minimum period of 6 months (with scope to extend up to 18 months), to enable the Council to gather public feedback and monitor the impact on surrounding roads.
At the end of the trial period, traffic data and consultation feedback will be fully considered before a final decision is made on whether this experimental scheme should be made permanent, dropped or amended.

Have your say
The Council is keen to hear the views of local residents and businesses throughout the trial period, to ensure that all available information has been considered before a final decision is made.
