Lytton Grove Area Traffic Management Scheme
Overview
Following receipt of a petition from Lytton Grove residents expressing concerns over perceived high traffic volumes, excessive speed and the number of accidents on this road, Wandsworth Council's Strategic Planning and Transportation Committee has approved a trial of banned right turns out of Lytton Grove. The proposed measures aim to reduce the volume of traffic and improve road safety between the A219 Putney Hill and the A3 West Hill. A plan of the proposed changes can be seen here.
Two sets of traffic counts have been undertaken along Lytton Grove, located near Putney Hill, and West Hill. During the trial period, further traffic surveys will be carried out to enable ‘before and after’ comparisons, and the scheme will be actively monitored to ensure driver compliance. The Council may need to take additional steps to address changes in traffic flows and driver behaviour on adjacent residential roads. If changes are considered necessary, local residents will be notified in advance. However, the expectation is that after a settling-in period, traffic is likely to stay on the A-roads.
The Council also proposes to upgrade short sections of single yellow line to double yellow lines on Lytton Grove and the adjacent side roads to improve visibility at the junctions (a statutory consultation on yellow lines will be carried out separately).
What happens next
The trial period will commence on 8th June for a minimum period of 6 months (with scope to extend up to 18 months), to enable the Council to gather public feedback and monitor the impact on Lytton Grove and adjacent residential roads.
At the end of the trial period, traffic data and consultation feedback will be fully considered before a final decision is made on whether this experimental scheme should be made permanent, dropped or amended.
Have your say
The Council is keen to hear the views of local residents and businesses throughout the trial period, to ensure that all available information has been considered before a final decision is made.
