Proposed 20mph speed limit on Bolingbroke Grove (SW11)
Overview
Further to the successful boroughwide 20mph implementation on residential roads, the Council is now considering a selection of classified roads that are suitable for a 20mph speed limit.
Following a petition and the application of additional criteria (see criteria below), a 20mph speed limit is being considered on the stretch of Bolingbroke Grove that is currently designated 30mph (from the junction of Broomwood Road to Nightingale Lane). The existing 20mph restriction from Broomwood Road to Battersea Rise will be retained.
This criteria includes:
- an existing recorded mean speed at or below 24mph (recorded via traffic surveys)
- no further additional traffic calming measures would be required
- there is benefit to the local communities, such as nearby schools or high pedestrian or cycle flows
- the proposed change is supported by Ward Councillors and residents
The current recorded mean speed on Bolingbroke Grove is below 24mph, which is consistent with Department for Transport guidance.
Wandsworth Council would like to know your views before deciding whether to proceed with implementing the proposal. You can view a plan here which shows the proposed 20mph speed limit. 20mph signage is required on the main road and existing signage on side roads will be removed, helping to reduce street clutter. Regular 20mph repeater signs and road markings would be required throughout to remind drivers of the speed limit.
If you wish to submit comments on the proposal, please click on the online survey link below where you will be able provide feedback up to the 6th of December.
