Results updated 23 Feb 2024
Thank you to all those who gave us their views on the proposed traffic reduction, school safety, and parking measures in the Wykeham Estate. Following consideration of the feedback received, the council has approved recommendations. Details can be found here.
Overview
In March this year we asked for your views on traffic and safety concerns on the Wykeham Estate. The outcome of this suggested that residents have concerns regarding traffic and road safety issues and as a result the Council has developed a package of measures aimed at reducing non-residential through traffic, improving safety, and regulating parking.
The full report outlining the views of residents can be found here.
We are now seeking your views on the following package of measures:
1. TRAFFIC REDUCTION MEASURES
-
Longford Road junction of Powder Mill Lane – the introduction of an ANPR enforced restriction for traffic into Longford Road from Powder Mill Lane at peak school times. Residents will be exempt from this restriction and visitors/tradespersons to properties on the estate will be eligible to apply for an exemption retrospectively. There will be no charge for this exemption. Traffic will still be permitted access into and along Longford Road from the opposite direction.
-
Longford Road (between Hospital Bridge Road and Warburton Road) – the introduction of one way working westbound.
-
Springfield Road (between Hospital Bridge Road and Warburton Road) – the introduction of one way working eastbound.
2. SCHOOL SAFETY MEASURES
-
Cobbett Road – the introduction of a School Street restricting traffic at peak school times from entering. Residents will be exempt from this restriction and visitor/tradespersons will be eligible to apply for an exemption retrospectively. There will be no charge for this exemption.
3. PARKING MEASURES
-
Entire estate – a general review and 'tidying' of footway parking bays, this will include a full remark of bays including marking on the road surface and the introduction of double yellow lines in locations where parking is not considered safe or feasible. This includes around junctions, across pedestrian pram ramps and adjacent to fire hydrants.
-
Warburton Road – a change in the parking arrangement to provide footway parking on both sides of the road. This will increase parking provision by maximising the available kerb side space. It is also proposed to narrow the junction at Longford Road to enhance the area for pedestrians and slow vehicles into and out of the junction. This will be subject to available funding.
The package of measures can be viewed here and is intended to improve conditions for residents by:
- removing rat-running traffic from the estate
- minimising traffic disruption at peak school times
- improving the area for pedestrians and cycles
- removing ad-hoc and indiscriminate parking
