Traffic issues in North and South Worple Way areas

Overview

The Council is keen to better understand the views of residents about the existing traffic conditions in the North and South Worple Way areas.

Since the closure of Hammersmith Bridge to vehicular traffic, and modifications to parking bays on Alder Road and South Worple Way (to improve emergency vehicle access), concerns have been raised about pedestrian safety, traffic volumes and vehicle conflict in local roads. It appears some drivers may be using local roads to avoid congestion on the wider main road network.

Finding the right balance between restricting through traffic in the area whilst not inconveniencing residents and businesses is a challenging task. Whilst restrictive measures to address through traffic can bring benefits, they can also be restrictive to local accessibility.

Therefore, the Council would like to start a conversation with local residents to better understand views and opinions on local traffic issues in the area, what the long-term traffic picture could look like, and help identify what, if any, traffic management and control measures would be considered appropriate. We would also welcome comments on what measures would not be supported.

What happens next

All feedback will be carefully evaluated before any possible measures are considered. If there is support for intervention then this would be subject to further consultation, and any changes would be introduced on an experimental basis to fully test the effects and support from local residents.
