Upper Teddington Road Bridge works
Overview
Essential works are to be carried out to the Network Rail bridge in Upper Teddington Road in late July, requiring all or part of the road to be closed for several weeks.
Before work was due to begin, Richmond Council organised a public meeting on 24 June 2010 at 7.30pm in Bullen Hall (Bennett Close, Hampton Wick) where residents could find out about the works and have their say on how they would like the road to be shut.
There were two courses of action regarding the road closures which residents were asked to comment on:
1) Full road closure of Upper Teddington Road for eight weeks at the bridge; diversion along Church Grove/Sandy Lane/Park Road.
2) One side of the carriageway to be closed, with temporary traffic signals at the bridge for ten weeks, with an advisory diversion along Church Grove/Sandy Lane/Park Road. In addition, a full closure of the road will be required on four weekends.
Comments forms were provided at the public meeting, and a version was also available online.
What happens next
More than 40 residents and shopkeepers attended the meeting. A number of business owners and residents said the full closure would seriously affect their shops as footfall and passing trade would be significantly reduced.
What has happened as a result?
In response to feedback, the decision was made to part close Upper Teddington Road to traffic while repairs were carried out.
