Thank you to all those who gave us their views on the proposed zebra crossings on Shacklegate Lane. Following consideration of the feedback received, the council has approved recommendations. Details can be found here.

Overview

Richmond Council is consulting on the introduction of two possible zebra crossings on Shacklegate Lane.

The Council has received requests for improved crossing facilities on Shacklegate Lane. A review of conditions has shown that traffic volume can be high at peak times and crossing demand on the two existing traffic islands is such that more formal crossing facilities can be justified.

We are therefore seeking your views on new zebra crossings in the following locations. Please click the links attached to see images of the proposals.

  1. Junction of Church Road – the existing traffic island would be removed and the pavement widened on both sides to allow a zebra crossing to be implemented.
  2. Junction of Elmtree Road – the existing traffic island would be removed and the pavement widened to allow a zebra crossing to be implemented.

Both proposals will require some carriageway resurfacing. These crossings will mostly replace existing yellow line restrictions and therefore the impact on parking is considered minimal.

The distance between these crossings is such that both crossings could be implemented if there was sufficient support and available funding. Alternatively, either crossing would work as a standalone measure. Subject to the outcome of this consultation, we would seek funding and look to construct in Spring/Summer 2024.
