Richmond Smarter Homes Hub
Overview
Richmond Smarter Homes Hub is your trusted resource for making your home healthier, more comfortable, and cheaper to run.
The Smarter Homes Hub brings together information about retrofitting homes, specifically for Richmond residents. This includes everything from understanding heat loss in the home and how to make simple DIY improvements, to information about planning permissions and grant financing options.
By creating a Hub for information about retrofitting, the Council is supporting residents to future-proof their homes, reduce emissions, and contribute to a cleaner, greener Richmond.
What is retrofitting?
Retrofitting means upgrading your home with modern features like improved insulation, secondary glazing, heat pumps or solar panels, to become more energy efficient. These changes also reduce carbon emissions from heating, helping the environment.
The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames aims to be net zero by 2043. Most of our carbon emissions come from heating homes, so making existing houses more energy-efficient is vital.
Improving energy efficiency at home through retrofitting can:
- Increase comfort
- Reduce energy costs
- Make homes healthier for everyone
- Improve ventilation to prevent mould and damp
- Enable homes to be more resilient and better adapted to heatwaves or cold spells
- Potentially add value to the property for future sale
- Reduce carbon emissions and support a healthy environment.
