Orleans Infants School Improvement Works - pre planning consultation 2010
Overview
The Council has Central Government funding available to expand the communal areas at Orleans Infant School. This expansion is very much needed, given the higher number of children on site due to additional classes currently at the school, and will have an immediate benefit for children and parents. Architects, from a company called DLA, have been working closely with the school, governors and Council to develop the design, which is nearing the point where a planning application will be submitted. Further background information is available in the letter to parents and residents at the link below.
Consultation event
A consultation event for parents, the local community and any other interested parties was held at Orleans Infant School on Monday 15 November 2010 from 2.30pm - 8pm. The design drawings for the expansion of the communal areas were on display to provide information about the project and to collect views of the proposed plans prior to a planning application being submitted. The architect, Local Authority representative, the Headteacher and Governors were available to answer any questions.
The consultation was publicised on the school's website and invitation letters were sent to local residents and sent home with pupils.
What happens next
47 parents and local residents attended along with the architect, Local Authority representative, the Headteacher and school governors. Positive feedback was received primarily in relation to the enhanced facilities the development will provide in terms of hall space and a 'fresh cook' kitchen. A common concern identified by local residents related to potential construction traffic and noise.
What has happened as a result?
A planning application was submitted on 6 December 2010 and permission granted, with conditions, on 31 January 2011.
