Hampton North Uplift Programme - Hampton Square
Overview
The Uplift programme aims to revitalise a number of areas across the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames that would benefit most from a range of improvements. Hampton North has been identified as one of those areas. Following consultation with local residents in July 2012 a proposal and a design for a new Hampton Village Square has been produced. The aim is for the square to replace the derelict Old White House building and provide a vibrant community space with links to the local shops, youth and community facilities and make All Saints Church a focal point.
The design for Hampton Square improvements include:
- New planting beds, slightly mounded and planted with flowering perennials
- New oval gently sloping lawn, raised edges at both ends incorporating seating and lighting
- New stone paving with diagonal pattern, throughout the new square
- Informal timber play pieces on both lawn areas, to include a timber tractor, three sheep and a stile
- Ground level fountains arranged in two oval areas, with a poem inscribed around fountain jets
- New timber benches
- New cycle racks
- Proposed new trees; Liquidambar styraciflua (Sweet gum)
- Existing trees; Liquidambar styraciflua, Red oak, and multi-stem birch trees
- Provision to be made within the square for an annual Christmas Tree with lighting
