Elm Grove Road Traffic Changes
Overview
CASTELNAU, ROCKS LANE, CHURCH ROAD, ELM GROVE ROAD, QUEEN ELIZABETH WALK - PROPOSED JUNCTION IMPROVEMENTS AND INTRODUCTION OF ONE WAY WORKING IN ELM GROVE ROAD.
We are consulting on proposals to improve traffic conditions at the Castelnau/Rocks Lane/Elm Grove Road/Church Road and Queen Elizabeth Walk signalised junction. The complexity of this 5 arm junction and the number of traffic movements currently provided for results in delays to traffic, especially on Castelnau, Rocks Lane and Church Road. To maximise the benefits for traffic on the main roads it is proposed to:
· Make Elm Grove Road one way in the southbound direction
· Remove the existing banned left turn from Elm Grove Road to Ranelagh Avenue
· Have arrows painted on the highway showing the direction of traffic
· Erect illuminated one way and no entry signs at the relevant locations, as shown on the attached plan and photos
These changes are expected to reduce traffic queues by:
· Simplifying the junction
· Extending the green signal time to the most congested arms of this busy intersection
· Preventing vehicles from rat running along Elm Grove Road
It is expected that the level of rat running on other residential streets in the area will be reduced as a result of shorter traffic queues.
