Richmond Contraflow Cycling Scheme
Overview
On behalf of our residents, Richmond Council is committed to addressing climate change and to delivering year-on-year improvements in our borough’s air quality. As part of a number of measures in support of these objectives, the Council has supported a roll-out of Contraflow Cycling routes across the borough.
As part of our efforts to encourage active travel (including cycling) and reduce some residents’ reliance on private car use, the Council have evaluated a number of routes which could benefit from linked Contraflow Cycling measures to enable safe cycling against the direction of existing one-way restrictions.
These Contraflow schemes are intended to have low impact on visual amenity, with minimal signage and markings. Plans showing these proposed routes and the drawings for individual roads are available to view below:
- Overall plan
- Area 1 (St Margarets & North Twickenham): Sidney Road/ Kenley Road/ Broadway Avenue/ Hill View Road/ Bridge Road
- Area 2 (North Richmond): Kingsway East/ Kingsway West/ Shalstone Road
- Area 3 (Hampton Wick): Park Road
