Overview
As part of our commitment to continually improve our parks and open spaces, London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames Parks Department are proposing a complete redesign of Champion’s Wharf (excluding play beach) on Twickenham Riverside. The redesign follows on from the creation of the hugely popular play beach opened in 2013. The intention of the redesign is to create an attractive space connecting the Embankment with York House Gardens, offering a variety of elements including 10 new trees, perennial planting, granite paving creating a boardwalk with attractive seating overlooking the River Thames and Eel Pie Island.
How Champion's Wharf looks now
To mark the Rugby World Cup, Poet in the City, the poetry organisation and public art consultancy, proposes to create a modern version of Pope’s Urn on Champion’s Wharf as part of the redesign. Pope’s Urn will celebrate the connections of Twickenham with this famous English poet. Appropriate to its historical and architectural context, it will also be an exciting and beautiful piece of contemporary public art, providing a new destination for visitors and residents on one of the most beautiful stretches of Thames riverside.
The design for the proposed urn has not been finalised as yet but further information will follow in due course.
We are keen to hear your views and invite you to take part in this consultation by taking a look at the proposed design below and completing the online survey by 8th April 2015 when the consultation closes.
