Back Lane Traffic and Landscape improvements
Overview
Following on from previous work undertaken by the Council in the Ham Area, Back Lane was identified as a street that would benefit from traffic and urban design improvements, funded by Transport for London. The proposals are shown on drawing no 2217/PR/GL/007 and 2217/PR/GL/008, key features include:
Construct new footway, connecting Lock Road footway with eastern Back Lane Footway
Raised road area along Back Lane shop frontage
Raised table adjacent 'The Bench' Pedestrian Walkway, providing pedestrian access from Back Lane to Ham Street
Raised table outside 57 Back Lane, linking the Back Lane eastern and western footway
Various urban landscape improvements, including new street lighting, street trees, and cycle stands
The urban landscape upgrades together with traffic improvements including pedestrian links to Back Lane aim to create a positive street environment that is beneficial to the local community and businesses.
Views on these proposals were gathered via a questionnaire.
What happens next
What has happened as a result?
Following consultation, the decision was taken to proceed with the proposed scheme. The works were completed throughout 2010. As at December 2010, re-surfacing the pavement at the corner of Lock Road and Back Lane (Ham Common side) remains outstanding whilst other private construction work is taking place in the area. Once this is completed and once the weather conditions are suitable for re-surfacing, the work will be finished.
