The Council is consulting on proposed safety measures for St Mary’s School in Twickenham.
You can see the proposals on a map here.
A new zebra crossing will be introduced directly outside of the school to provide a safer and more convenient pedestrian crossing point in Arragon Road. The footways will be widened with the crossing placed on a raised table. This will reduce the width of the crossing point and encourage approaching drivers to slow down.
The new zebra crossing will result in the net loss of 3-4 Resident CPZ (Zone D) bays. To help off-set the parking loss, the Council is proposing to downgrade the existing double yellow line waiting restrictions on Richmond Road Bus Lane, between its junctions with Sion Road & Oak Lane, to single yellow line to allow parking overnight (7pm – 7am). This change would then allow some additional overnight parking in the immediate area.
The Council will enhance existing cycle access through this area and reduce the likelihood of pedestrian/cyclist conflict.
Double yellow lines will be implemented to discourage obstructive parking on both sides of the Arragon Road bend and within the Amyand Park Road turning-head. This will ensure emergency vehicle access between Arragon Road and Amyand Park Road is maintained at all times
