Sheen Road Proposed Zebra Crossing Upgrade
Results updated 19 Nov 2014
Officers are currently reviewing the results of the public consultation in close liaison with the Cabinet Member for Highways & Street Scene. The results will be reported by way of a Cabinet Member Decision before any decision is made as to whether the existing zebra crossing will be upgraded to a signal controlled crossing.
Overview
The existing zebra crossing in Sheen Road near Sheen Common Drive is well used, giving access to Holy Trinity Church of England Primary School and nearby residential areas. There is local concern about pedestrian safety and the Council has received complaints that some drivers are not giving way to pedestrians using the crossing. In response the Council is proposing to upgrade the crossing in Sheen Road to include the following changes:
- Changing the zebra crossing on Sheen Road, near the junction with Sheen Common Drive, to a traffic light controlled crossing with pedestrian countdown (see diagram in related documents below). The pedestrian countdown shows how much time is left to cross safely once the ‘green figure’ has gone out. The aim is that the new crossing should help to improve driver behaviour.
- Relocating the crossing slightly closer to the junction with Sheen Common Drive.
- Widening the pavements on both sides to reduce the crossing width, thereby reducing delays to traffic and improving sight-lines for all road users.
We are keen to hear your views on these proposals and invite you to complete and submit the questionnaire by 26th October 2014 when the consultation closes.
If you require a paper copy of the questionnaire or any clarification or further information prior to making your comments please contact Robert Parsey using the contact details above.
