Overview

Communities were consulted on the development of natural play areas across the borough, with a focus on consulting 8-13 year olds. The 11 play areas under discussion included:

  • Murray Park, Whitton
  • Broom Road Recreation Ground, Teddington
  • Kneller Gardens, Twickenham
  • Castelnau Recreation Ground, Barnes
  • Ham Village Green
  • Sandy Lane Recreation Ground, Ham
  • Hampton Common
  • Raleigh Road Recreation Ground, Kew
  • Heathfield Recreation Ground, Whitton
  • Chertsey Court, Mortlake
  • Hounslow Heath Estate

A programme of consultation was carried out across the borough from May - November 2009 through school visits, meetings, events, online feedback and an open day. Consultations included:

  • Stall at Castelnau Community Cafe, followed by onsite walkabout with a group of 8-13 year olds from Lowther Primary School
  • Consultation with Year 7 pupils at Teddington School regarding Broom Road
  • Onsite consultation with Mother and Children Group at Chertsey Court
  • Onsite consultation in nearby community cafe with residents and young people regarding Hounslow Heath Estate
  • Consultation with Youth Project at Tangley Park regarding Hampton Common
  • Consultation with Youth Project at Ham Village Green regarding Ham Village Green and Sandy Lane
  • Consultation at local primary school with 8-13 year olds regarding Heathfield Recreation Ground
  • Consultation with residents, young people and children at Kneller Gardens
  • 'Inclusion specific' consultation at the Croft Centre with parents and staff regarding Raleigh Road.

What happens next

Feedback from the community was used in deciding what play provision was needed in the local area and in designing these natural play areas.

All Year 1 projects are now complete.
