Milestone Green
Results updated 30 Sep 2024
Thank you to those who took part in this consultation. Following the initial concept design, feasibility work and public consultation on the proposals, the Council will need to source funding to progress and implement the scheme.
Once funding has been secured, the next phases of detailed design and coordination through to construction will be implemented.
Results from the consultation can be read here.
Overview
Richmond Council recognises the importance of ensuring that the trading environment of its town and district centres must be of a quality to attract and retain residents of and visitors to these areas. Consequently, as part of a Public Realm Improvement Fund (PRIF), the Council has identified the area known as Milestone Green as one of a number of these areas for investment.
Proposals have been developed to create a more welcoming and greener space that facilitates people getting together and generates a stronger community bond to this place.
Proposals include:
- A greener public space with planters at the edge of the footway to create a visually attractive and welcoming central dwelling space
- Generous forecourt space that allows shops to use it for outdoor cafe and dining activities
- A diverse array of inclusive seating areas with arm rests and back rests and a feature bench that offers flexible seating opportunities within the central space
- Natural stone paving with permeable joints to help irrigate the planting areas and reduce any potential for flooding in periods of heavy rain
- Improvements to the areas surrounding the existing trees and existing planting areas with a wider variety of planting used
- Integrated lighting features to create an attractive environment and to improve the sense of safety in the space
- A dedicated space for the Remembrance day event by the War memorial to recognise its importance within the local community
- Four additional cycle parking spaces
