Place Survey Boost 2008

Overview

All local authorities in England were required to carry out the Place Survey in 2008. The survey measures resident satisfaction with the local area and public services. 

In addition to the main survey, Richmond upon Thames carried out a Place Survey Boost in the five areas of the borough which the Council and its partners had identified as being of relative disadvantage (Castelnau, Ham, Hampton North, Heathfield and Mortlake). Whereas the main Place Survey targeted a sample of households across the borough, the Boost surveyed every household in the five areas. The results were used to analyse satisfaction levels in the five areas and draw comparisons with the borough as a whole.

Why your views matter

A total of 9,608 questionnaires were sent out and 3,541 responses were received, giving a response rate of 37%.

Satisfaction with the local area was high across the five areas at 85%. Although not as high as the borough wide results (92%, second highest score in London), the five areas' score is still higher than the London average of 75%. There were greater concerns about crime, anti-social behaviour and community safety and poorer levels of self-reported health in the five areas than the borough as a whole.

What has happened as a result?

Results were circulated to stakeholders and partners and presentations were given to Working Together Groups in the five areas on request. Concerns raised within individual areas were highlighted for consideration as part of the local area action planning in each of the five areas.
