Buccleuch Gardens Park Improvement Proposal

Closed 18 Oct 2013

Opened 27 Sep 2013

Overview

Buccleuch Gardens is one of the most popular spots in the borough, with its views of the River Thames and Petersham Meadows.

There is a provided surfaced footpath that goes along the parks western edge past the toilets which then splits to head along to the riverside or Petersham Meadows.  There is also an informal path that cuts across the grassed area from the main path to the “kissing gate” on the riverside path, which cyclists and pedestrians use instead of staying on the main surfaced path.

The constant use of this informal path has eroded the grass creating an unsightly track through this grassed area straight through to the Kissing Gate.  This has spoiled the look of this section of the park, which is also used by picnickers and others who have to compete for space with cyclists and pedestrians travelling through this grassed space rather than using the nearby footpath.

The Council has been considering a long-term solution that improves the look of the park, provides safe routes and provides pleasant spaces to sit and enjoy the park and river and proposes two options. Please read the supporting documents below for details of these options before completing the questionnaire.

The responses to this consultation will be considered and will inform the decision about what improvements are made.  The overall improvement would take approximately three weeks.

We are keen to hear your views on the proposals and invite you to take part in this consultation and say which of the options you prefer by completing and submitting the questionnaire by 18th October 2013  when the consultation closes.

Please look at background documents before completing the questionnaire.
