Overview

The Council is carrying out a review of supported living and care homes for people with a learning disability and autistic people in Richmond.  As part of the review the Council is asking people what they think.

This survey is for:

  • People with a learning disability and/ or autistic people who live in supported living or residential care homes in Richmond provided by Certitude, Lifeways, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, United Response, and Walsingham
  • Their relatives and friends
  • People who work in these supported living and care home services

We are carrying out this review now because some contracts to provide supported living and residential care in Richmond will end in 2023.  About 170 people live in accommodation where the contracts end in 2023.  The contracts were set up in 2015  and 2017 as part of “Our Big Plan” Learning Disability Strategy.  There are five providers who are Certitude, Lifeways, Metropolitan Thames Valley Housing, United Response, and Walsingham.

We will need to put new contracts in place for when the old contracts end.  Your answers to this survey will help us to decide what is important to have in the specification for the new contracts.

This survey is one of the ways we are asking people about their opinions.  We have also asked Richmond Mencap to help us consult directly with people with a learning disability and autistic people who live in the supported living and care homes.  We have already spoken to some family carers and we plan to hold some workshops for family carers in January and February (if you are a family carer you will be asked about your interest in this as part of the survey). We are also finding out what other people think including landlords, and care and support providers.

This is a big opportunity to step back and think about what changes you would like us to make to improve the services.  The information that we collect will be used to help us improve care, support and accommodation for people with a learning disability and autistic people in the future.

If there are any changes, we will tell people who are affected so that they can prepare.  We will do everything we can to make sure that there is as little disruption as possible for the people who live in the accommodation and the frontline staff who work there.

Please give us your views by clicking on the online survey link below.  Responses to this survey will be confidential.

These survey questions are also available in a paper Easy Read version which has been sent to your care and support provider.   If you have any queries please contact Alan.Hiscutt@richmondandwandsworth.gov.uk .
