The findings from the consultation will be used in conjunction with other consultation and engagement activities to inform the final Adults Prevention Strategy which is due to be published in summer 2015.

Overview

The London Borough of Richmond upon Thames Local Authority and Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) have developed their first integrated three year Prevention Strategy to improve the health and well-being of our population and to support people to remain independent.

The Care Act (2014) emphasises the importance of a shift in service provision towards preventive services, with the aim of preventing, reducing and delaying the need for care and this strategy outlines our approach.

This strategy recognises that health and wellbeing are influenced not only by people’s lifestyle choices or the health and social care services that we provide, but by wider forces which include the places and communities in which people live their lives. The strategy also recognises that we need to find a way to help more people to help themselves and, ultimately, become less reliant on more specialist services. We need to deliver prevention focused services in a way that helps people to either help themselves to find solutions to problems or prevents those problems developing in the first place and in doing so reduce the need for the higher cost services that we have to provide.

If you live or work in the borough we’d like to hear your views on our strategy.

Please read the draft strategy document below and complete the online survey by Friday 10th April when the consultation closes.
