Heathfield Library Project
Results updated 13 Aug 2013
Over 100 people visited both the school and the library open meetings. In summary, most were happy with the proposed relocation and improvements to the library (with no loss of facilities). However, there was less support for the proposed clinic (the reason behind the library relocation).
The biggest issue that arose from the consultation was parking for the library and congestion on Powder Mill Lane at school drop off/pick up times. In response a consultant was commissioned by the Highways, Traffic and Transport team to produce a Library Travel Plan and additional parking was incorporated into the design.
To note: following the consultation it was decided not to pursue the project further, considering the wider financial context at the time.
Overview
Informal consultation took place on the proposed relocation of Heathfield Library. The relocation would make way for the proposed new health and social care facility for Heathfield and Whitton.
The Council consulted on proposed plans to move the library to the Heathfield School site on Powder Mill Lane, which is more central to the ward. This would initially be a temporary but high quality building with a view to a permanent library being provided as part of any development of Heathfield Infant School, Heathfield Junior School or, potentially, Whitton School and Sports College.
Open meetings with library managers and Council officers were held on the following days:
- Tuesday 2 June, 6.30pm - 7.30pm (Heathfield Library)
- Friday 5 June, 3.30pm - 5pm (Heathfield Junior School).
Stakeholders were invited via email and residents were sent letters directly. Notices were placed in local libraries, the community centre, schools and the school newsletter.
An exhibition outlining the proposals was also on display at Heathfield Library, with the opportunity to leave comments.
