Hampton Children's Centre
Overview
Following the closure of Hampton Clinic earlier this year, the Council is working towards the creation of a Children's Centre facility on the site of the former clinic (Tangley Park Road, Hampton, TW12 3YH).
The proposed Children's Centre, funded by a central government grant, will be an exciting place for children, young people and their families in the local community where they can access a range of activities, advice and services to support parents. The Centre will also house a wide range of children's health services as well as specialist support services for those children with complex special educational needs.
Comments and views are being gathered prior to submitting a planning application later in the year.
Consultation event
An informal consultation afternoon was held on Thursday 8 July 2010 at Tangley Park Road from 3pm - 8pm, for the local community and any other interested parties. Design proposals were on display to view along with more information about this proposed new development. A short survey was also available to complete. Letters were sent to local residents and businesses in advance.

What happens next
Approximately 200 people viewed the information that was on display in the square of Tangley Park, Hampton, with a total of 41 people completing the survey. The majority were parents (78%).
Key findings
- The four most popular provisions for the Children's Centre were: family activities, play, physical activity and musical activities. Drama was the least favoured provision.
- The four most popular support services for the Children's Centre were: child behaviour advice and support, parent and carer support, health advice and Job Centre Plus. Relationship advice and drug and alcohol advice were the least favoured provision.
- The four most popular health services were: health visitor and post natal checks, midwifery, speech and language therapy and CAMHS. Assessments and appointments for children with disabilities and occupational therapy had lower results, but it became clear during discussions with the community that these were still wanted.
- There wasn't a specific overall preference for which day(s) of the week the centre would be used, although the most popular times to use the centre were between 10.30am - 12pm and after 3pm.
What has happened as a result?
The comments and data collected from the consultation and the survey will be fed back to the relevant departments and design team for consideration in the project going forward. It is anticipated that a planning application will be made in August 2010.
