Hounslow Heath – Proposal for a Community Garden

Closed 19 Aug 2024

Overview

The London Borough of Richmond’s Parks and Arts Teams are proposing to add a new Community Garden to Hounslow Heath. If approved, this proposed project would be part of the LBRuT Arts Services Cultural Reforesting Initiative…we want to create this with you!

Cultural Reforesting asks the big question, how can we renew our relationship with nature? Through a range of artist-led, interdisciplinary research projects over this decade, which scientists have defined as the crucial one to act, the programme aims to provide wide-ranging positive action in this ecological crisis.

As part of this initiative the Parks and Arts Teams would like to hear from local residents, schools and community groups who would like to be part of the creation of the garden.

The brief for the garden’s creation will be guided by the information and suggestions given by the local community on their interpretation of how we can renew our relationship with nature. This will then be interpreted by the artist working on this project to design and create the garden. The Arts Team is also planning to host some small-scale events to celebrate Cultural Reforesting at this site.

The proposed garden will have flowering plants/shrubs, trees and a seating area, and would be a cultural space for communities to share and tell stories in, but we really want to create this space with you, so let’s get our imaginations going!
