Overview

The London Borough of Richmond’s Parks team is consulting on a proposal to establish a Community Food Growing area at Dean Road Open Space, Hampton.

This would be operated by local volunteers and community groups who have expressed interest in supporting this initiative. Food growing spaces provide a learning and meeting place where people of all ages from our local community can learn about the following:

  • Food origins – where does my food come from?
  • Growing your own skills
  • Biodiversity
  • Cookery
  • Recycling and upcycling

We hope this initiative will support the local community, by bringing together community groups to work together to grow fruit, vegetables and flowers. These would be shared and consumed by the groups. We hope that once the proposed project establishes, these groups would be able to engage with local schools and help educate them on the benefits of food growing.

The new food growing area will consist of a few raised beds made from wooden sleepers.

Please see the below map showing the exact location of the proposed Community Food Growing area. The yellow box indicates area to be used:

There is an existing community growing initiative within the borough at Vine Road in Barnes. This is supported by Barnes Common Ltd and they have been able to make donations to local food banks. To find out more, please click here.
