Overview

We would like your views on a school safety proposal on Strafford Road, Twickenham.

Concerns have been raised through the St Mary’s Church of England School Travel Plan regarding the lack of a safe place to cross the road outside of the middle site for the school.

Officers assessed conditions at the end of school time and found that parents and pupils currently cross in random locations and often between parked cars where sightlines are reduced. Concerns were also raised regarding vehicles travelling at inappropriate speeds.

In light of these concerns, we propose to:

  • widen the pavement on both sides of the road outside the school to create an area with clear sightlines. This will also have a raised table to slow vehicle speeds
  • upgrade the existing single yellow line to a double yellow line outside numbers 14-22 and around the junction with Haggard Road. This will help to maintain sightlines around the table and junction at all times, loading and unloading will still be permitted
  • remove 3 resident parking bays from Strafford Road. However, we propose that 2 of these are replaced in Haggard Road

As part of these works, we will look to repair any footway defects in the immediate vicinity.
